Christianity is not Mediocrity
‘Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.’ – Isa 60:1
In the days of old, it appeared as if Christianity meant mediocrity. A man of God who has been in ministry for almost 40 years now once said that about 35 years ago, when there was an outburst of revival in Nigeria,
there were things that Christians were not permitted to buy. For example, if you wanted to buy a bicycle, you would not buy the shiny type because it was seen as a mark of worldliness. If you wanted to buy meat, you would buy the inferior, low grade type called ‘kpomo’ (cowhide or skin). You wouldn’t buy normal body cream but only petroleum jelly so that flies can be having fellowship with you anywhere you go. You couldn’t wear a tie to look decent and call yourself a Christian. All these were satanic advertisement of mediocrity.
The devil wanted to equate Christianity with mediocrity and poverty. In those days, the poorer you were, the better for you. They used to say, ‘As poor as the Church rat’, because the rats inside the Church have no food to eat.
But there is already a turnaround in the Church! God is not excited about lukewarm people. God is the God of excellence and we are created in His image of excellence. Let us arise and be like God in excellence. Let us shine for His light has come and the glory of the Lord is risen upon us. Though darkness covers the earth, the Lord will rise upon us and His glory will be seen on our heads. Remember this: God is the God of excellence and we are created in His image of excellence.
